The Playing Lesson
There are many ways of taking a golf lesson. The most common kind is in our virtual studio at IGC downtown or at the range. There you will develop the techniques to your golf swing, build your routine, and learn the fundamentals of the game. Once a student has the fundamentals correct, they will want to go to the course and attempt to use what they have so diligently learned. If you have caught yourself saying, “I hit it perfectly on the range and can’t seem to bring it to the course” then you might want to consider a playing lesson. A playing lesson could be your missing link. It’s a lesson that is just as valuable as learning how to swing your golf clubs. It’s a lesson on the golf course with a golf professional, learning how to play golf.
A lesson in the high-tech studio will consist of many ways to understand your golf swing. A lesson on the course not only enhances the understanding of your golf swing, but will take you to the next level, a lesson on course management. During a playing lesson you will learn how to think and act on a golf course. Most people can ruin their game by over analyzing their swing during play. The golf course is not the time or place to analyze swing mechanics. It is the time and place to use your practiced pre-shot routine, imagination of situation and free flowing swing.
The playing lesson consists of:
- Stretching and warm up
- Course management
- Club selection
- Shot selection
- Judgement of wind, distance and yardage
- Understanding the terrain or lie of the ball and the necessary adjustments
- Sand bunker tips (fairway & greenside)
- Relaxation, patience, breathing and endurance
- Etiquette of play
- Green reading
- Finally, how to analyse what you need to practice after the game
Similar to a golf lesson, you will have a report card. Your lesson report card grades the fundamentals of your swing at different positions during your swing. Your playing lesson report card evaluates your game. A playing lesson report card calculates greens hit in regulation, putts per green, up and downs chipping and from bunkers, fairways hit of the tee, number of mis-hits and which clubs, as well as score.
A playing lesson is 5 hours of professional advice that will be most valuable towards the development of your game.
IGC lessons and playing lesson are available at several courses and in both:
English with Canadian PGA Class “A” Teaching Professional Darren Kelso and Bahasa Indonesia with Indonesian PGPI Golf Professional Agus Supriyatna.
